Military Appreciation: Dallas Caramel Company Loves our Men & Women in Uniform.
For as long as I can remember seeing a person in military uniform has stopped me in my tracks. I get overwhelmed by gratitude and just tear up. For many years my husband traveled a lot for his job and sometimes I had the opportunity to go with him. When I would see someone in uniform at the airport, I always went over with the intent to say thank you and shake their hand, but by the time I got across the waiting area, I would have tears streaming down my face, chin quivering, snot running out my nose and be unable to say anything for fear of all out bawling. They always would stand and shake my hand anyway because they understood my motives.
Oftentimes when I share with people that Dallas Caramel Company supports Operation Homefront or other military causes, they ask if a family member is/was in the military. My answer is no (although my dad was Navy reserves and both my granddads served in WWII). People sometimes seem surprised and I don’t understand why. Why is it weird that I would want to support the military? Why wouldn’t I want to support the brave men and women who put their own lives on the line so that I may pursue my dreams. I can’t imagine the terror a spouse feels each day not knowing, or how a child feels proud of his parent but not fully understanding what it is all about. It just kills me. I’m too much of a wimp to do what they do, but I can definitely find a way to say “Thank You.”
With that in mind, Dallas Caramel Company is proud to have our “Caramels For Soldiers”. For just $5 you can donate a ¼ pound bag of caramels to the USO lounge at DFW airport. We deliver them regularly, and feel good knowing that they go to a soldier using the lounge either on their way to a deployment, or on their way home. It is a way for us, all of us, to say “Thanks!” without the awkward airport waterworks.
I have a favorite t-shirt that says “Home of the Free, because of the Brave” and I truly believe this. Men and women every day choose to put their life on the line for us. For America. For the country you and I CHOOSE to live in. I get to spend my days making caramel and visiting with people all over Dallas because they keep us safe. And I am so grateful. So many people want to come to this country because we are FREE to vote, talk, go where we want to go. No matter the political climate, I hope we all remember these brave people.
So, next time you get home from a trip and think, “Man, it sure is good to be home.” Think about a soldier, and her family back home, or his kids that are growing up without him, and appreciate the sacrifices our men and women in uniform make every day so that we can truly be free. All of us at Dallas Caramel Company are grateful and thankful for our service members every day. We know you are too. But we hope that everyone makes sure to tell them thank you whenever we get the chance.
